Rec Me Days: Death Note
7th-Aug-2006 06:56 pm
meroko
Since four is the number of death in Japanese, the Fourth Rec-Me meme has to be Death Note.

The Formal Meme

Anyone is welcome to join in, even if you and I don't usually agree on pairings or hang out in the same circles. I'd like that, actually, to get a bit of variety going. Please don't feel shy or unwanted around here. ♥

Please link to the author's work (you don't have to stick to any of the major archives, anywhere is fine), include relevant information if possible (pairing, author, maybe any non-work-safe ratings if you feel up to it), and there is no time limit, this post will stand for as long as LJ is around.

1) Rec up to five of your favorite fics featuring your preferred pairing(s) or threesome(s).

2) Rec up to five of your favorite fics featuring your favorite character(s).

3) Rec up to five of your favorite authors who write your preferred pairing(s) or threesome(s) well.

4) Rec up to five of your favorite authors who write your favorite characters(s) well.

5) Rec up to five authors who you feel deserve more recognition for their fanfic contributions.

The informal Meme:

What's your fav fanfic in the fandom? Give me links to a couple, and I'll take a look. And yes, you can definitely pimp yourself.

Fics that I like might later appear as part of the daily recs. View this as a chance to expand your (and my) reading horizons, 'cause I'll try anything once. These rec-me posts will be filed under its fandom, so hopefully it can serve as a resource, especially for smaller, more obscure fandoms.

*g* Most of these are old, though. Only a few were written within the last year. Also I realized that 18 months later, the authors I came up with are all friends. And most of the fics I came up with were written by friends. I'd like to see a rec list from someone who is a complete lurker in fandom, who doesn't pay any attention to authors. Then maybe you'd get an objective list.

By the way, Death Note/xxxHOLiC works SURPRISINGLY WELL:

Coulda Woulda Shoulda (Light has a wish)
Godly Meetings (What Light&Ryuk look like to Watanuki ^__^)

Maybe it's because both series are kind of creepy?

For Death Note, my taste runs toward Concept fics (with optional Surprise Endings). Also Understated Humor and Weird Pairings, which is strange since I don't like crack pairings in other series.

(my Death Note fic is here. ^____^)

Didn't we meet through DN? I think most of the "old" fans who were writers became acquantances. Since I never took to the second arc, I've kinda been ignoring the fandom.

And objectivity doesn't exist. ^_~

My flist is ridiculously skewed toward Death Note, this is true. *g*

Maybe not! But your author personality bias won't have anything to do with whether I, not knowing an author, will like their fic, while your bias towards creepy shinigami slash or metaphor-rich writing will, depending on whether I not I share that bias.

(Speaking of:
We Fat Ourselves For Magots (Ryuk/Light)
Opposeable Thumbs (Light))

I haven't been following the fandom, though every now and then I'll read new fic about old characters.

True, true. I know a couple of authors who I have nothing to do with just because I can't stand their personalities - and I'm sure there's probably some who say the same about me. ^_^;;

I still think "We Fat Ourselves For Magots" has the hands-down best title EVER for DN.
